Wheat bran is a natural product made of ground and processed wheat grain. Its regular consumption helps to decrease cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, regulate the digestion, and, at the same time, protect the mucous membrane of the intestines and stomach. Bran contains fibre that regulates the metabolism of the body.
There are several types of bran available:
Wheat bran – made by grinding wheat grains, has the highest dietary fibre content of all brans.
Oat bran – made by grinding oat grains into flour or grits. Is a good source of carbohydrates, protein, fats, minerals, vitamins and fibre.
Rye bran – made by grinding rye grains. Helps with fatigue, heart and blood circulation problems.
There are also high-fibre brans available, with an increased fibre content that has a positive impact on the digestive system. Wheat bran can be used to make a delicious and filling porridge with added healthy ingredients or you can serve it with cold yoghurt. It is also ideal for baking cakes and rolls, or used as an alternative to bread crumbs.
